The History of Hooks ABC
Powerday Hooks Boxing ABC (formally Hooks Boxing ABC) has been in existence for over 10 years and is a tremendously successful, voluntary, sporting club connected to the London Borough Ealing and surrounding communities, whilst being a member of the National Governing Body England Boxing and proudly work across and with all genders and ethnic sections of the community.
Powerday Hooks Boxing ABC was formed out of a need displayed and the evident demand for the sport of boxing by a number of young people from Ealing, the project has been delivered though the generous support of Mick and Ed Crossan of Powerday who have under-pinned and financed the re-furbishment, with some investment from the Local Ward Forums.
The ‘Powerday Hooks’ Head Coach Steve Newland, who founded Hooks Boxing ABC has voluntarily given the last 10 years plus of his life to the club, offering the benefits that boxing can provide to some of the most marginalised and hard to reach young people in our community, who seek a different sport offering complete discipline, respect and negating gang and street crime culture.
Powerday Hooks ABC has won 37 National Boxing titles since foundation in 2009.
For the last two seasons we have been London’s most successful school age boxing club & the 2nd most successful in the country.
One of Steve’s former pupils and boxers James DeGale has gone on to win Olympic and World Titles and become a household name and is renowned upon the World Sporting Stage.
James stated ‘I thoroughly recommend any young boxer to take every, and any opportunity they can to train under the guidance of Steve Newland.
I can testify, from personal experience, that Steve will greatly improve you as a boxer and as a person.
